This was for purely\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; practical purposes \u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;because the small rowboats would tip over with bigger barrels. Smaller casks are more expensive by volume, but deliver more flavor quicker so the trade-off was worth it.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;The Arran Distillery started a series of \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;special limited releases\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; called \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;“The Bothy”\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; to carry on the tradition.\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; The Arran Quarter Cask Batch #3\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; is a fine “Bothy” Single Malt that has been aged a full seven years in \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;ex-Bourbon casks\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;, followed by eighteen months of finishing in new, quarter-casks.
