They proudly practice \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;slow fermentation\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; and \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;slow distillation\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; using \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;traditional wooden vats\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; and huge washes made from towering \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Douglas Fir\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;. The distillery produces non-peated Bruichladdich Single Malt, Port Charlotte which is peated in the classic Islay style, the heavily peated Octomore, and The Botanist Islay Dry Gin.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Head Distiller Adam Hannett \u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;set out to craft a \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;signature Single Malt\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; to serve as the standard-bearer upon which the line would be defined. Calling it \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;“The Classic Laddie”\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; is a great way to set it apart and provide a pronunciation lesson at the same time. True to form, this Islay rebel has \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;zero peat\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; and \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;100% Scottish barley\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; and it’s aged in first-fill \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;ex-Bourbon casks \u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;with no chill-filtration and no artificial coloring at 50% ABV.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;u\u0026gt;Smartass Corner: \u0026lt;\/u\u0026gt;\u0026lt;em\u0026gt;The name of the distillery is darned hard to say correctly. The trouble is that sometimes the “-ick” in Scot’s Gaelic is sometimes pronounced as a hard “k” and sometimes it’s silent. And in “Bruichladdich” there’s one of each.
