They use local windmills for the production of malted barley, helping preserve an important\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; Dutch heritage\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; of their World-famous windmills.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Zuidam \u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;is supposed to be the first\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; Europen Rum\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; producer and it is certainly the first Rum producer in the \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Netherlands\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;. Their \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Flying Dutchman No. 1\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; is crafted from pure cane molasses. It’s triple-distilled in pot stills and aged for at least 1 year in virgin \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;American oak barrel\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;s. The flavorful dance of caramel, pecans, cardamom, and dried maple reminds us more of tropical islands than of windy Dutch plains.
