The family’s first foray into Gin began in 1940 when \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Manuel Giro Sr\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; launched \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Gin MG\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;, now one of Spain’s best selling Gins.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;Years later grandsons \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Mark and Manuel Jr\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; wanted to continue the family tradition and crafted their own Gin, inspired by the\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; Mediterranean climate\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;, using locally sourced botanicals. To produce Gin Mare they used the family \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;housed in a chapel\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; that was once a monk’s retreat. Talk about the Holy Spirit!\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Gin Mare\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; truly is Mediterranean, in spirit and in taste. The premium barley base is infused with traditional Gin botanicals, but also specialties of the Mediterranean — basil from Italy, thyme from Greece, rosemary from Turkey, citrus fruits from Spain, and their liquid gold: The \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;ARBEQUINA OLIVE\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;; the only olive in the world with its own \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Designation of Origin\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;Due to the low yield of the Arbequina olives when juiced, they have to use an astounding \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;15 kg of olives\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; per each distillation batch. The citrus they add is \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;macerated for a full year\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; before being used, while other botanicals take around 36 hours.
