His \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;secret\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; is a combo of pure spring water from the Ballantruan Spring, the barley that’s usually not peated – except for this very expression, the fresh air, and oak wood casks.\u0026lt;\/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;The annual release of a deeply smoky \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Peaty Tang\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; is a lower proof replacement for \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;Tomintoul’s Old Ballantruan\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;. For two weeks out of the year,\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; Tomintoul Distillery \u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt;makes a heavily peated Whisky and this particular bottle is a Single Malt from a blend of their\u0026lt;em\u0026gt; 5-year-old\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; peated Whisky and their \u0026lt;em\u0026gt;8-year-old\u0026lt;\/em\u0026gt; unpeated one. It’s a balanced and complex Spirit that enjoys all the benefits of its peaty soul: it may be a young’un, but it’s more intriguing than some of the older Whiskies.
