<p>“Struck flint and chalk dust dominate on the nose over intimations of peach and apricot. Pithy piquancy of peach kernel and hazelnut dominates the firm palate, though ripe peach contributes welcome fruit juiciness. The finish displays similar buoyancy (at 12% alcohol) to other of the best Diel vintage 2017 Rieslings, but it’s relatively tight and adamantly mineral in comparison with the clarity, saliva-inducement and sheer juiciness displayed by the best Rieslings in that collection. Given their respective styles, I was not surprised that many of my German counterparts found this year’s Goldloch superior to the corresponding Pittermännchen. But Diel reports that Goldloch was much less tight and more generous in flavor in the first months after bottling than when we tasted it together in early November, 2018.”</p>
