It’s close-planted, and has been unirrigated for over 20 years.” The bird dotting the label is a tribute to the hens living in the vineyard, a beautiful sun-laden amphitheater close to Gareth’s heart.</p><p>Vineyard: Little Creek, Norton Summit. Planted in 1987 and 1990, 505m altitude</p><p>Soils: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive schist and quartz rubble</p><p>Production: 138 cases</p><p>Vinification: A mixture of 100% and 50% whole cluster open-top fermentation, 8 months in French oak barriques, 35% new.</p><p>Personality: savory wine with immense power and perfume, spicy, generous, and warm.</p>
