Alvarinho

<p>Monção and Melgaço is a sub-region of Vinho Verde on the south side of the river Minho which forms the northern border with Spain. It is quite far inland, away from the cooling Atlantic breezes and for this reason has a warmer microclimate. The Alvarinho grapes thrive here as they do across the river in Rias Baixas.
