Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico, Allegrini, Veneto, Italy, Magnum, 2017Grapes: A blend of 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta. Hand harvested.Allegrini is an Italian family business based in the Veneto since the 16th century. All wines use estate grown fruit sourced from 90ha of vineyards in the communes of Sant’Ambrogio and Fumane.Winemaking:Appassimento: The best grapes, harvested in the upper hillsides, are left to dry in the drying facility for about 4 months. The grapes lose 40-45% of their original weight, concentrating the juice and natural sugars. After a soft pressing, the wine ferments in steel tanks.Aged in new oak barriques for 18 months, in large barrels for 7 months and in the bottle for about 14 months.Producer Tasting Note:Intense ruby red tending to garnet, it reveals an extraordinary complexity on the nose, with notes of cherries in spirits and blackberry jam, followed by hints of dried violets, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco. It takes the palate by surprise with its balance, freshness and softness, enhanced by silky-smooth tannins.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”The Allegrini 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico shows dark fruit and spice that all point to the hot and dry conditions of this vintage. The wine is balanced with a good amount of dark fruit intensity but no overtly jammy or baked fruit. That dense fruit wraps thickly over the palate, supported by backend aromas of charred spice and campfire embers. This is a blend of 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta with 120 days of appassimento.” Drink 2022-203594/100 points, Monica Larner, WINE ADVOCATE, December 2021″Bright, radiant ruby red. Multilayered and clear on the nose, followed by ripe plums, cherries, delicate vanilla tones, high-grade wood, then dried blood orange and dried rose petals. On the palate, radiant and with distinct fruit, showing beautiful juiciness, compactness, and tightly woven tannins. Everything is wonderfully balanced, exciting until the finish.”95/100 points, FALSTAFF, Austria, February 2022Amarone Della Valpolicella Allegrini Magnum 2017
