Arno Smith Kromtak (Crooked Branch) Grenache Noir

Medium- to full-bodied, beautiful vibrant red hue. If you’re testing your palate with a blind tasting, the telltale signs of grenache are the candied fruit roll-up and cinnamon flavour. This Grenache Noir boasts with intense fruity notes on the nose, complimented by prominent herbs and spices we learned to love in a beautiful red wine.

Tasting Note

With strawberries, black cherries and raspberry flavours dominating at first, one will also note that hint of spice at the back of the palate. The Grenache Noir boasts well-balanced and accessible supple tannins. When it’s fuller in body, the deeper fruit notes are more pronounced but when it’s lighter, expect more of those high-toned notes like strawberry and currant.

Food Pairing

Grenache is very versatile and food friendly, that is why most prefer this as a chilled summer wine. Therefore, when we talk about pairing food with grenache, it’s all about what dishes will complement the spice in the wine.

Turkey is a winner, as are other game meats such as duck. If you’re pescatarian, opt for a meaty style of fish such as a tuna steak. Don’t be afraid to bring out the grenache at a braai (barbecue) either, as it goes well with a grill. Alcohol is a solvent to capsaicin, which is the heat unit in spicy foods. A lighter-alcohol Grenache served slightly chilled can help reduce the burn of spicy food.
