The warm, deep porphyry and dolomite deposits of the Eisack-River and the well ventilated location at the exit of the Eisacktal offer ideal conditions for the cultivation of fruit and wine. Since time immemorial, the indigenous grape varieties Lagrein and Blatterle have been cultivated here. In the 20th century, the Nusserhof suffered heavy fatalities. When Josef Mayr-Nusser refused the oath on Adolf Hitler, he paid for it with the life. After the war, the family fought for years for the preservation of their farm, which was to be expropriated and demolished as part of the city expansion. Finally, the court was placed in the mid-1980s in memory of Josef Mayr-Nusser under protection. Today, the Nusserhof is a green oasis in Bolzano, a sustainable organic farm that lives up to biodiversity and has become a meeting place for art, music and science.
