The Backsberg Pumphouse Shiraz captures the richness and character of Paarl’s sun-drenched vineyards. Crafted from hand-selected Shiraz grapes, the wine is aged for up to 18 months in a mix of French and American oak, adding layers of depth and spice. Aromas of ripe blackberries, mulberries, and dark cherries unfold alongside hints of mocha, black pepper, and subtle mint. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with fine tannins and a lively freshness that balance the fruit. Smooth and lingering, it finishes with notes of dark chocolate and oak spice, showing both power and polish. Decanting brings out its full complexity, and it will continue to evolve beautifully over the next several years.Founded in 1916, this wonderful estate is located below `The Little Tower ofBabylon` on the steep hillside vineyards in Paarl. This prominent producer has beenat the forefront of quality wine production for many years. Currently under thestewardship of fourth generation Simon Back, they are making considerable waves inthe international market. Recently achieving carbon neutral status, the first in SouthAfrica. They constantly strive to produce the highest quality grapes using natural and organic principles. Alicia Rechner is back at the helm as winemaker and is well supported by viticulturalist Clive Trent.Backsberg Pumphouse Shiraz 2019
