Bizarra Extravaganza Amphora Tannat, Progreso, Canelones, Uruguay, 2020Grape: 100% Tannat, sustainable farming, practising organic, natural wild yeast ferment, ageing in clay amphoraCritics’ Tasting Notes:”Very dark with purple rim. Stony, pure dark Tannat fruit, blackberry but without the sweetness that might suggest and perhaps even a little bit darkly floral. Deep rather than voluminous on the mid palate. Unexpectedly fine tannins for an unoaked version of a tannic variety. Bone dry, lively, fresh, leaving your mouth clean the way dark chocolate can do. The alcohol is well integrated. Unassuming but deep, delicious and persistent. 16.5/20 points, Julia Harding MW, Jancisrobinson.com”Aged for six months in clay amphorae and vinified according to the parameters of minimal intervention, this is a succulent tannat with ripe and intense flavors and tannins that are firm but not overloaded. A red that’s very easy to drink with an accent on fruit and flowers.”91/100 points, Patricio Tapia, Descorchados, January 2022Familia Deicas winery was born in 2000 as a project by the Deicas family, to make quality, terroir-driven wines with a minimal intervention philosophy. Winemaker Santiago Deicas sources fruit from 60ha of vineyards and prefers to use clay amphorae and neutral oak barrels, often using co-fermentation of different grape varieties. The first “Bizarra” wines were produced in 2018.Bizarra Extravaganza Amphora Tannat, Progreso, Canelones, Uruguay, 2020
