Bodegas LAN Crianza, Rioja, Spain, 2021Grapes: A blend of 95% Tempranillo, 2% Garnacha and 3% Mazuelo, aged 12 months in oakBlack and red wild fruit notes in balance with spice notes can be found in nose. In mouth, medium-full body structure, with a silky palate make this wine complex and enjoyable.Critic’s Tasting Note:”A solid Rioja crianza that’s very well balanced. Red plums, cherries and sweet spices follow through to a medium-bodied palate with juicy red fruit and a touch of vanilla. Fluid, pretty long and well grained. Drink or hold.” James Suckling,, January 2024Also awarded 89/100 points, Guia Penin, April 2024 and 91/100 points, Tim Atkin MW, March 2025Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN is situated in the heart of Rioja Alta. Though a relatively young producer, the bodega has gained a well-deserved reputation for excellent quality wines. Its name is an acronym of each of the provinces it straddles: Logroño, Álava and Navarra. This is Bodegas LAN’s most famous wine, the one that best reflects their innovations in ageing, as they started to use hybrid oak barrels (with French oak bases and American oak staves) for LAN Crianza as long as two decades ago, contributing to its unmistakable character. The Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes for the Bodegas LAN Crianza are sourced from trusted growers in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subzones. Fruit from vineyards at higher altitude in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria in Rioja Alavesa brings aromatics and freshness to the blend while fruit from slightly warmer sites in Rioja Alta brings richness and body. The vines are aged between 10 to 20 years old and produce low yields of concentrated fruit able to stand up to extended periods of ageing in oak barrels.Food Match: Serve at 17-19°C with traditional tapas style dishesBodegas LAN Crianza, Rioja, Spain, 2021
