Notice: This edition uses the same source whisky as the Cask Strength release named Best European Whisky in Jim Murray’s The Whisky Bible 2026, but is bottled at a lower ABV (46% vs. 58%).

The first Slovenian Single Malt Whisky embodies the natural treasures of “the Green Gem of Europe”.

Why would you name your company “Broken Bones“? The distillery was founded in Slovenia by Boštjan Marušič, Borut Osojnik, and Polona Preskar. They hadn’t named their fledgling business yet and were filling barrels of Whisky for aging. Boštjan and Borut had both just come from the hospital because one had broken a leg and the other his nose. As they tell it, the bones healed but the name stuck. They produce a tidy range of five Gins and a couple of Whiskies using custom-made stills in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

Broken Bones Peated Whisky combines local Slovenian influence with the Scottish tradition of Whisky-making to create a smooth, complex, and smoky addition to their repertoire. Made from the finest peated barley, exceptionally pure Slovenian water, several types of specially-selected yeast to ensure high flavor production, the wash is slowly double-distilled for a distinctively full flavor. Adding to the complex cocktail of local flavors is the maturation that takes place in a combination of barrels made from local Slovenian oak and American white oak Bourbon barrels, the latter having held the peatiest Islay Scotch before. Oh, and if you think the local flair ends here: the warehouses where their Whisky matures are surrounded by untouched forest, thus letting it breathe only the cleanest, purest air.

Non chill-filtered, no added color, and produced in small batches, it embodies the natural treasures of Slovenia, “the Green Gem of Europe”.
