<p>The classic Speyside Single Malt… but bolder. </p><p>John Cumming was one of the <em>rare Whisky smugglers</em> that successfully transitioned to legal operation when the oppressive tax and production laws were eased. Thus, Cardhu was born in<em> 1824. </em>You may know Cardhu as one of the <em>signature core malts of Johnnie Walker, </em>but it was a Single Malt long before the blenders got their hands on it. Happily — after a few mis-steps — Diageo has restored it to its former delectable Single Malt glory where it is pleasing customers and winning awards once again.</p><p>It may sound as stating the obvious, but<em> Cardhu15 </em>is a deeper, richer, bolder expression of their signature twelve year old Single Malt. That means it’s a classic interpretation of<em> Speyside style. </em>And as opposed to having a peat-influence infused into it, Cardhu gets the faintest whiff of peat from the local waters which flow past <em>a natural peat bog nearby. </em>This is relatively unique for a Speysider, and that’s one of the reasons fans like it. The main flavor profile speaks of stewed pears with a thick body and light sweetness.</p><p><u>Smartass Corner:</u><em>The word Cardhu comes from the Gaelic “Carn Dubh” which means “black rock.”</em></p>
