ORGANIC / BIODYNAMIC / VEGAN / NATURAL

A field blend of around a dozen different grape varieties, all grown at altitude in the foothills of the Serra do Caramulo mountains in Central Portugal. The grapes macerate on their skins for a whole two months, and the wine spends a further 11 months on its lees, both of which add amazing complexity of body and flavour to the finished product. In the glass it’s a light orange colour, and is a riot of aromas and flavours, with notes of pithy citrus, tropical fruits, green tea and loads of aromatic herbs like rosemary, mint and bay. It’s a completely natural wine, bottled unfiltered and unfined, and Sara & Antonio use chestnut flour instead of sulphites during vinification to protect the wine from external nasties.

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Portugal’s Dão region, Casa de Mouraz is a family-run winery dedicated to using biodynamic viticulture to capture the region’s unique terroir. Sara and Antonio have a scattering of vineyards nestled amongst the foothills of the Serra da Estrela and Caramulo mountain ranges, with a huge array of indigenous grape varieties that each require individual attention. This care and attention continues to the cellar, where minimal intervention reigns supreme and the duo eschew the use of sulphur, allowing the grapes to express their true potential and thus producing wines that are elegant, expressive, and deeply rooted in their place of origin.

Origin: Beiras, Dao, PortugalVintage: 2022Grape variety: Field blend of Malvasia-Fina, Encruzado, Bical, Cerceal-Branco, Tamarez, Barcelo, Malvasia-Rei, Fernão- Pires and many moreFood pairing: Charcuterie, Shellfish, Fatty Fish, Poultry, Soft CheesesBottle size: 75clABV: 11.5%
