Cerro Anon Gran Reserva, Bodegas Olarra,Rioja Alta, Spain, 2018Grapes: Tempranillo 90%, Garnacha 5%, Mazuelo and Graciano 5% aged in French oak (a combination of new & used barrels) for 27 months. The winery, established in 1973, is located at the eastern end of the Rioja Alta on the outskirts of the city of Logrono. It is known for the unusual 111 hexagonal domes making up the roof of the barrel cellar which naturally control temperature variations. This wine shows a deep red colour with shades of ruby on the rim of the glass. To the nose, at the time of release, it revealed a delicate balance between ripe red berry aromas and those of spices and smokiness. Over time, bouquet has grown more complex, showing aromas of leather, coffee beans and raisins. Mouthfeel is as firm, elegant and smooth as one should expect from a Rioja Gran Reserva, with a surprisingly long and fresh finish.Critic’s Tasting Note:”Aromas of Mission fig, mocha and aniseed waft from the glass. Dark berry and baking spice flavors mingle on the palate alongside well-balanced acidity, robust tannins and notes violet and coffee bean. The energetic finish is marked with a touch of orange zest.”93/100 points, WINE ENTHUSIAST, July 2024Also awarded “Gold Medal” at Mundus Vini Spring Tasting, 2023 and “Platinum” at Japan Wine Challenge, 2023Vintage after vintage, this wine really delivers everything you could want in an aged Rioja wine at a very good price!Food Match: Roast lamb or lamb braised with figs, stews, grilled meats like steak or chorizo, spicy dishes using paprika, mature Manchego, aged cheddar, or blue cheeseCerro Anon Gran Reserva, Bodegas Olarra,Rioja Alta, Spain, 2018
