Chablis “Les Grands Terroirs”, Domaine Samuel Billaud, Chablis, Burgundy, France, 2022Grape: A blend of 100% Chardonnay, hand picked from three sites across Chablis; Les Cartes & Les Pargues (both on the Left Bank) and Chapelot (on the Right Bank, south-east of, and adjacent to, the domaine’s Chablis Grand Cru plots).A real high-quality Chablis with lovely, pure, apple fruit and a rich, mouth-watering texture with flavours of lemon and peach, along with background notes of grapefruit and orange peel. Fresh acidity will allow the wine to keep for several years. Aged on its lees rather than in oak before bottling.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”The 2022 Chablis Grands Terroirs comes from the usual three parcels. The nose offers yellow plum and verbena, touches of chalk emerging with aeration. The palate has real “zing” on the entry, sharp and pointed, taut and linear, revivifying the senses with impressive concentration on the finish. Citrus-fresh, very saline – superb.” Drink 2024 – 2031. (91-93)/100 points, Neal Martin, September 2023″Not as aromatic as the Petit Chablis. A little more herbal and cedary. Lovely tension and assertive purity. Clean edges, salty aftertaste. It has a touch more concentration than the Petit Chablis but if you like a more aromatic style, go for the slightly cheaper Petit Chablis even if the straight Chablis tops it very slightly in overall quality. The differences seem more stylistic than qualitative, at least at this early stage, though the Chablis will probably age a bit longer.”16.5/20 points, Julia Harding MW, Jancisrobinson.com, September 2023Samuel Billaud is one of Chablis’ finest winemakers. For over twenty years he has been responsible for some of the best wines produced in Chablis. He established his own winery in 2009 and, in 2014, his estate was greatly extended when he recovered his share of the Domaine Billaud-Simon vines after the family estate was sold to Faiveley. He has now built a new winery in the centre of Chablis where he ferments the wines in a mixture of stainless steel vats and 450 litre demi-muids (for premier & grand cru wines)Drink with seafood and fish-based dishes.Chablis “Les Grands Terroirs”, Domaine Samuel Billaud, Chablis, Burgundy, France, 2022
