The 2003 Château Climens is a Premier Cru Classé from Barsac, a wine-growing area within the Sauternes region known for its noble sweet wines. Climens, often referred to as the “Lord of Barsac,” stands for elegance, finesse, and exceptional quality. The 2003 vintage was a challenge for Bordeaux due to the extreme heatwave, but in Sauternes and Barsac, the warm climate allowed for concentrated noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), producing rich and complex sweet wines.

In the glass, the wine displays a bright golden color that will gradually fade to deep amber with ageing. The aromas are intense and seductive, with notes of candied citrus fruits, ripe peaches, apricots, and honey, complemented by floral nuances typical of Château Climens. Subtle hints of vanilla, almonds, and exotic spices add further depth to the wine.

On the palate, the Château Climens 2003 presents itself opulently, with a silky texture and impressive concentration. The sweetness is rich but perfectly balanced by the lively acidity, giving the wine freshness and vibrancy. The palate reflects aromas of dried fruit and honey, along with hints of caramel and a mineral undertone typical of the limestone soils of Barsac. The finish is long and complex, with a beautiful balance between sweetness and freshness.
