Chateau Fourcas Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Bordeaux, France, 2018Grapes: A blend of 54% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot, 47ha vineyard on gravel over clay/limestone soil, average vine age 30 years, matured 12-14 months in French oak barrels (1/3 new)The chateau, established in 1844, is situated halfway between Saint Julien and Margaux within the wider Medoc region.Producer Tasting Note:This wine is distinguished by its deep colour with purple highlights, immediately announcing its intense character. On the nose, it seduces with a perfumed bouquet dominated by aromas of blackcurrant, which are harmoniously accompanied by notes of ripe fruit. On the palate, it reveals its full personality by offering a rich and balanced taste experience. The tannins, of remarkable finesse, offer a velvety sensation in the mouth, while a generous flesh unfolds in the middle of the tasting, bringing a feeling of fullness.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”Mid crimson, not as dark as many in 2018. Gentle, lightly spiced dark-red fruit, nicely stony. A little bit of oak sweetness on the palate but mainly a gentle, rounded wine that is really quite approachable (as long as you drank it with food) even though it’s so young. A lightness of touch and more obvious freshness than in many 2018s, perhaps because the other components are relatively restrained.”16/20 points, Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, October 2020″Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Fourcas-Dupre opens a little shy with subtle black raspberry, redcurrant jelly and cassis scents followed by suggestions of garrigue, bay leaves and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, it has a solid line of chewy tannins tagged with compelling freshness sparking energy into the bright fruit, finishing mineral laced.”(89-90+/100) points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, WINE ADVOCATE, April 2019″Dark ruby red colour with a purple hue. Layered nose blending some toasted and spicy oak elements with ripe wild berries, cassis and fine tobacco. Nice palate combining dense young fruit, vivid and ripe tannin, well-integrated oak notes adding a slight butterscotch creaminess, and a dense and long finish. Fine potential”92/100 points, Andreas Larsson, TASTEDFood and wine pairing: Grilled shrimp skewers with quinoa and roasted vegetables.Chateau Fourcas Dupre, Listrac Medoc.
