Château Lascombes, 2eme Grand Cru Classe, Margaux, Bordeaux, France, 2010Grapes: 55% Merlot, 40% Cab Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, 120ha vineyard on gravel/clay/limestone soils, aged 18-20 months in French oak barrelsDominique Befve has opted for an almost identical blend toChâteau Palmer but the style is very different. With a coldpre fermentation maceration, greater extraction of colourand tannin and a higher percentage (90%) of new oak, this isan impressive, dense wine of great power and richness whichdoesn’t have the finesse of Palmer but has bags of flavourand masses of rich, meaty fruit.Producer Tasting Note:Nose: At first discreet, the nose bursts with black fruit aromas after swirling the glass. A wonderful array of very ripe fruit, such as blackberries, sun-drenched cherries with chocolate and mocha notes coming through. Great aromatic complexity and lovely finesse.Palate: A fresh, soft entry on the palate. All the power and structure is counter-balanced by the roundness, flesh, vivacity and elegance of the flavours. Against its velvet backdrop the fullness of the wine comes immediately centre-stage, showcasing its tight-knit, fine-grained tannic structure, the hallmark of this 2010 vintage. Black fruit and spice flavours follow, and the finish is amazingly long.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Lascombes gives up notes of dried herbs, tilled soil and black olives over a blackcurrant cordial and plums preserves core plus a touch of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers chewy tannins and bold freshness to support the savory flavors, finishing with an herbal lift.” Drink 2020-203892/100 points,Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, March 2020Also awarded “Gold” at TEXSOM (2019), “Great Gold” at International Wine & Spirits Awards (2016) and “3 Stars coup de cœur” at Le Guide Hachette des Vins (2014)Chateau Lascombes, Margaux,2010 from Fraziers Wine Merchants
