The 2001 Château Pichon-Longueville-Baron is an outstanding Bordeaux wine from the renowned Pauillac appellation in the Médoc, one of the most respected wine regions in the world. This long-established winery, also known as “Pichon Baron,” has earned a reputation for its powerful, structured, and long-aging wines, and the 2001 vintage is a prime example.

This wine presents itself in the glass with a deep, dark ruby red color with purple highlights, indicating its youth and aging potential. The nose unfolds a complex bouquet of black currants, ripe blackberries, and dark cherries, complemented by notes of cedar wood, cigar box, and delicate spices. Hints of vanilla and toasted aromas from the oak barrel aging round out the aroma and add additional depth.

On the palate, the 2001 Château Pichon-Longueville-Baron is full-bodied and powerful, with tightly woven tannins and excellent structure. The fruity aromas of black berries continue, accompanied by subtle spice and mineral notes. The well-integrated acidity lends the wine freshness and elegance, while the tannins ensure long ageing potential. The finish is long and intense, with a harmonious balance of fruit, oak, and minerality, demonstrating the potential for further aging.

This Bordeaux has impressive aging potential and can easily be stored for several decades. With increasing age, additional aromas of leather, tobacco, and truffle develop, making the wine even more intriguing.

The Château Pichon-Longueville-Baron 2001 is an ideal accompaniment to rich meat dishes such as roast beef, leg of lamb, or game. It also pairs perfectly with mature cheeses and fine pâtés. To fully appreciate its full range of flavors, it should be decanted and served at a temperature of approximately 16-18°C.
