<p>Château Pichon Longueville Baron, Second Growth Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, 2004Grapes: A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, 73ha vineyard on gravel/pebbles/sandy soil, 35 year average vine age, Yield 35hl/ha, 15 months’ ageing in French oak barrels (80% new)Chateau Tasting Note:Château Pichon Baron 2004 is a finely-tuned blend in classic proportions, including some particularly good Cabernet Franc this year. It is a wine of great harmony that has kept all its fruit (blackcurrant and Morello cherry) perfectly intact. The sensation on the palate is one of fullness, with a fresh, fleshy, long-lasting finish that places the emphasis on balance: nicely integrated wood and mellow, juicy tannins. This is a great, great 2004 – a huge success for Christian Seely in a more challenging growing season than the ensuing one. Very fine tannins on the full-bodied palate, superb focus, elegant and feminine with a touch of burst toast and graphite on the finish. Great persistency.
