<p>Château Pichon Longueville Baron, Second Growth Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, 2004Grapes: A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, 73ha vineyard on gravel/pebbles/sandy soil, 35 year average vine age, Yield 35hl/ha, 15 months’ ageing in French oak barrels (80% new)Chateau Tasting Note:Château Pichon Baron 2004 is a finely-tuned blend in classic proportions, including some particularly good Cabernet Franc this year. It is a wine of great harmony that has kept all its fruit (blackcurrant and Morello cherry) perfectly intact. The sensation on the palate is one of fullness, with a fresh, fleshy, long-lasting finish that places the emphasis on balance: nicely integrated wood and mellow, juicy tannins. The finish is dense, sprightly and full of energy. Jean-René Matignon – Technical Director – March 2015Critics’ Tasting Notes:”Tasted at the London Pichon-Baron off-line. This is a great, great 2004 – a huge success for Christian Seely in a more challenging growing season than the ensuing one. A soaring blackberry, blueberry, cedar and wild strawberry nose with a touch of violets. Very fine tannins on the full-bodied palate, superb focus, elegant and feminine with a touch of burst toast and graphite on the finish. Great persistency. Quintessential Pauillac – at its finest.” Drink 2012-2025.94/100 points, Neal Martin, May 2009″Deep ruby with some blackish notes. A bit of evolution at the rim. Marine notes on the nose – oyster shells? Clearly still evolving (more youthful than the Pavillon Rouge 2004 served alongside it) with good concentration and the tannins just about to melt into the background. Lightly dusty on the slightly dry end. Pretty smart and classic Pauillac. Needs food.” Drink 2015-203317+/20 points, Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, January 2018This is part of a private customer’s collection.
