Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley Syrah, Washington, USA, 2019 Grapes: 99% Syrah, 1% Viognier aged for 16 months in 24% new French and American oak barrels. The Columbia Valley Syrah is a soft, jammy Syrah made in an approachable and fruit forward style. This is an enjoyable, easy-to-drink red.The oldest winery in Washington State, Chateau Ste. Michelle, owns 3,500 acres in the renowned Columbia Valley. The Columbia Valley American Viticulture Area (AVA) is a region in the east of the state separated from Seattle’s rainy, marine climate by the Cascade Mountains. The mountains shield the rain, limiting annual rainfall to 6-8 inches, allowing vineyard managers to control vine vigour through irrigation. All vines in the Columbia Valley are planted on their own rootstock, which helps maintain the health and longevity of our vineyards and preserves the grape variety in its natural state. Both the 2013 and 2016 vintages have won “Gold” in the Global Syrah Masters competition.Food Match: Great with beef, grilled salmon, strongly flavoured cheeses and anything cooked using the herbs basil, oregano, rosemary and thyme.Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley Syrah, Washington, USA, 2018
