Chateau Teynac, Saint Julien, Bordeaux, France, 2014Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot from vines with an average age of 40 years.Established in 1990 by the Pairault family, the chateau is situated on the Beychevelle plateau (gravel & clay) and is surrounded by classed growth properties. Growing in size from the original 4.5ha, a further 8ha have been added in small, fragmented parcels over the following 30 yearsThe wines are characterised by density, complexity and a distinct elegance. Asilky textured Saint Julien wine offering blackcurrant and cassis flavours which may be consumed now, or given a few more years’ cellaring.Critic’s Tasting Note:”This ripe, sophisticated wine from a 27-acre vineyard is dense, structured and still young. Packed with fruit and tannins, it is one of the rare wines in the appellation not to be classified as a Grand Cru. However, that means the wine is a great value and it certainly has the ageing ability. Drink from 2023.”92/100 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, September 2018Food Match: Drink with the classic Sunday roast beef, lamb with garlic & rosemary, or Portobello mushrooms.Chateau Teynac 2014
