<p>Chichibu Hanyu Ichiro’s Malt “On The Way” 2015 #9165-10700, Single Malt whisky, Japan, 70clNOSE: Fruity with green apples, nutty, peachy, vanilla and grassy notes. PALATE: Green apples, vanilla, banana, spicy, rhubarb. Slightly bitter and herbal. FINISH: Long finish. Raspberries, apples, pepper. Some bitter oak influence.This bottle is a wonderful vatting of expertly crafted barrels of single malt from the Chichibu distillery from the 2009-2012 vintages – first-fill bourbon, refill bourbon and one Japanese Mizunara cask (for the 2009 vintage). It was bottled at 55.5 % cask strength, with only 10,700 bottles produced and brings baking spices, apples and nutty malt flavours that bounce on the palate, making this another glorious release by the Chichibu distillery. There are top notes of fragrant woods and herbs, such as sloe & sandalwood, along with sweet notes of vanilla & honey and fruity citrus.Critic’s Tasting Note:”Colour: white wine. Nose: well, I have to say I’m finding this more complex, with these lovely herbal tones that we had already found in the Chibidaru. Linden, cherry stems… Some muesli too, raw malt, a touch of soot, and a few autumn leaves. Indeed, more complex. With water: gets totally muesli-esque. Mouth (neat): oh yes, this is excellent. Very punchy, citric and herbal, with some peppermint, lemons, paprika, green apples, and one cough pill. Something by Vicks, I’d say. With water: more fruit-forward, but the mentholy side remains there in the background. Finish: medium, sweet, with even a few sugary notes. Barley syrup.
