<p>There’s no mistaking this Old Tom Gin. </p><p>Citadelle is well-known and well-loved for making <em>French Gin. </em>The Original Gin was first produced in 1996, with a Réserve, which is aged in five different wood barrels for five months, joining the lineup in the following years.</p><p>In 2016, master distiller Alexandre Gabriel launched<em> a new type of Old Tom Gin,</em> as part of his <em>Extremes collection, </em>which sees the creation of a handful of new spirits each year, either as part of the Citadelle range, or one of the other Maison Ferrand brands, which also includes Plantation Rum and Pierre Ferrand Cognac.</p><p>While the products in the Extremes collection are designed to be limited edition, <em>Citadelle Extremes Old Tom No Mistake Gin</em> was wildly popular, and the initial run of 6,500 bottles wasn’t enough; so the decision was made to incorporate the Gin into the Citadelle family permanently. Old Tom is <em>a sweeter style of Gin, </em>which was made popular back in the 19th century, when the quality of Gin was poor and the sweetened flavor made it more drinkable. Citadelle’s Old Tom is made with <em>a Caribbean brown sugar, </em>which is caramelized before being added to the Réserve Gin base. It is then <em>aged for three to four months </em>in wooden casks.</p><p>The floral style of the Réserve Gin base is rounded by the sweet, caramelized sugar, with the barrel aging adding depth to the flavor.</p>
