<p>Cointreau is the indispensable orange component to hundreds of properly-made cocktails. </p><p>The <em>Cointreau Distillery</em> was founded in <em>1849 </em>by brothers <em>Adolphe and Edouard Cointreau.</em> They started with a French wild cherry Liqueur called a Guignolet which enjoyed popular success. But after a few years things really took off when they introduced the <em>bitter-orange Liqueur </em>that bears their name today — Cointreau. The company remained a <em>family-owned and operated</em> enterprise until it merged with Rèmy Martin Cognac in 1990 to form<em> Rèmy Cointreau.</em> </p><p>Technically, <em>Cointreau Orange Liqueur </em>is a form of Triple Sec — a category of strongly orange-favored Liqueurs. But it is so much more. We’d go so far as to call it the king of the category. It is made from <em>sweet sugar-beet Spirits</em> infused with both sweet and bitter orange zests that give it a delicate and complex citrus profile. The original recipe for a <em>Margarita cocktail </em>specifically called for Cointreau. And it is — in our opinion — a <em>brilliant component</em> of everything from Sangria to the Cosmopolitan. And the entire world agrees. Each year, more than thirteen million bottles are sold bringing joy to craft cocktail patrons everywhere.</p>
