Côte-Rôtie ‘La Mordorée’ M. Chapoutier, Northern Rhone, France, 2014 Grapes: Hand-picked 100% organicSyrah produced usingbiodynamic principles. 3 ha vineyard. Crop is entirely destemmed. Only free-run juice is vinified in concrete tank. Aged in 225l oak barrels for 14-18 months.Producer Tasting Note:Appearance: Deep red Nose: Raspberry, a hint of violet, predominant of spices, touch of black olive and “tapenade”, rosemary Palate: Ample, elegant, very well-structured and balanced. According to the vintage, the wine can be kept from 30 to 60 years, indeed from 50 to 75 yearsCritics’ Tasting Notes:”On another level, the 2014 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is a perfumed, incredibly layered and even sexy 2014 that has lots of black raspberry fruits, flowers, potpourri, and spice aromas and flavors. It’s a deeper, richer wine than the Les Bécasses, has solid mid-palate depth and sweet tannin. It will drink well for at least a decade.”94/100 points, Jeb Dunnuck, WINE ADVOCATE, December 2016″Saturated ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe red and dark berries, incense, vanilla, exotic spices and smoky minerals, plus a suggestion of licorice. Spicy, deeply concentrated but lithe black raspberry, cassis and cherry liqueur flavors show superb clarity and energy, and a sexy violet pastille quality emerges as the wine opens up. Delivers a suave blend of richness and delicacy, finishing with bright mineral lift, harmonious tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence.” Drink 2022-202893/100 points, Josh Raynolds, VINOUS, January 2017This is a very steep, terraced vineyard located on the border of the “Côte Blonde”. The soil is composed of chlorite and ferruginous mica-schists in loess depressions and earth veins. This is made from 100% Syrah (no blend with viognier). The 70 years old vines produce tiny yields. This is an ample, elegant, very well-structured wine. The aromas develop into earthy and smoky notes typical of a great Côte-Rôtie.Food Match: Drink with small game such as pheasant or duck, tender red meat dishes in a red wine sauce, or soft cheeses.Cote Rotie La Mordoree Chapoutier 2014
