<p>Angelo Gaja Darmagi Langhe</p><p> “Darmagi” means “what a pity” in English. Angelo Gaja’s father said this disapprovingly when he learned that his son wanted to plant French grape varieties in Piedmont. Inspired by his father’s disappointment, Angelo Gaja named the vineyard below his house Darmagi, which he planted with Cabernet Sauvignon instead of Nebbiolo. He wanted to demonstrate to the wine world that Italian oenology was also capable of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.</p>
