<p>THE Amaretto recipe from the 16th century.</p><p>Once upon a time, an innkeeper in<em> Saronno, Italy</em>, made a flask of an amber-colored Liqueur as a gift for a certain <em>Bernardo Luini,</em> a famous Renaissance painter and one of<em> Leonardo Da Vinci’s pupils</em> who used her as a model for a fresco of Virgin Mary. By steeping apricot kernels in Brandy, the woman unknowingly procured the first Amaretto Liqueur. In 1600, <em>Giovanni Reina</em> found the innkeeper’s recipe for Amaretto and guarded it closely as a family secret that was passed from generation to generation for centuries. It was <em>Domenico Reina</em> who shared the recipe with the world when he opened up a shop in Saronno in the 20th century and started making<em> Disaronno Originale.</em></p><p>Coming in a <em>glass decanter</em> designed by a craftsman from <em>Murano</em>, Disaronno Amaretto is based on that same<em> time-honored recipe</em>. Crafted from apricot kernel oil, caramelized sugar, and several herbs, spices, and fruits, the flavor profile is packed with signature b<em>ittersweet and nutty notes.</em> Sip it neat, on the rocks, or mix it up in a cocktail with cola, ginger ale, or fruit juice. You can also use it to make Tiramisu.</p>
