Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling GG Alte Reben, Mosel, Germany, 2020Grape: 100% Riesling (120 year old ungrafted vines), hand picked from a single “Grand Cru” (Grosses Gewachs) vineyard, fermented in large neutral oak barrels and aged 12 months on lees without battonageProducer Tasting Note:The ungrafted vines from which we produce this great Riesling are up to 120 years old. They reside in a plot called “Urglück,” a steep site that rises steeply directly behind the village in the heart of the Würzgarten. The vines grow in red volcanic and slate soil which gives this wine aromas of spice along with tropical fruits, such as pineapple and mango.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”Blood orange and pink grapefruit, distinctly fragrant. In the mouth there is an enormous amount of mineral extract, polished acidity, the sweetness remains defensive, the finish reveals aromas of stone dust and spice box, cumin and allspice, but in a youthfully reserved state.”95/100 points, WINE ENTHUSIAST, November 2021″The 2020 Ürziger Würzgarten GG Alte Reben is pure, deep and salty on the remarkably clear, precise and complex nose. Full-bodied and juicy, this is a round and fruity, not all too dry Würzgarten that is stunningly pure, finessed and tensioned for this complicated Mosel vintage. Highly promising. Tasted as a cask sample in Wiesbaden in August 2021.” Drink 2027-2045(94-96/100) points, Stephan Reinhardt, WINE ADVOCATE, September 2021Food Match: Roast chicken or pork, fattier fish like sea trout or salmon, root vegetables. The wine’s acidity makes it a great counterpoint to the richness of fried foods like Thai fish cakes or the spices in Asian-inspired dishes like shrimp tempura.Salty, aged cheeses including Parmesan, Gruyere and GoudaDr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling GG Alte Reben, Mosel, Germany, 2020
