Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand, 2022Grape: 100% Pinot Noir, organic/biodynamic, handpicked from the Calvert vineyard (deep silt soil), indigenous yeast fermentation, destemmed fruit with 25% whole bunch, 16 months’ ageing in French oak barrels (28% new), bottled unfined & unfiltered.Winemaker’s Tasting Note:Characteristic Calvert florals lead the nose with violets and dark rose petals dominating. The warmer 2022 vintage attempts to outplay the vineyard character, but as we have come to learn with this vineyard, Calvertness is rarely, if ever, outclassed. The deep silt soils and naturally moderated vine vigour provides intensity and detailed, elegant tannins. Fine and regal: a classic Calvert.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”Medium crimson. Perfumed and black-fruited. Dried herbs, smoky, wet-stone minerality and a salty/savoury character that makes it extra appealing. The tannins are fine-grained and elegant.” Drink Now – 203817.5+/20 points, Florencia Gomez, JancisRobinson.com, April 2024″A harmonious wine, so generous and giving that you nearly overlook the firm spine of acidity and tannin that shows its pedigree. Very fragrant and complex, with fruit, florals and spice. Great flow across the palate and proper build on the long finish. Very complete and inviting now, it’ll be hard to keep your hands off this but it will age very nicely indeed. B Corp certified and biodynamic. Drink 2024-2035.”97/100 points, Emma Jenkins MW, Decanter”Fantastic clarity and transparency in this wine with fresh strawberries and cherries. So bright. Medium to full body with very fine tannins that are integrated and energetic. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”96/100 points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.comAlso awarded 94+/100 points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, December 2023Drink this Pinot Noir with turkey, duck, goose and game birds such as quail & pheasant.Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand, 2022
