Gerard Bertrand ‘Chateau l’Hospitalet Grand Vin’ La Clape Blanc, Languedoc-Roussillon, France, 2020Grapes: A blend of Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc and Vermentino, marl/limestone & chalk soils, organic/biodynamic, hand picked, barrel fermented, aged 7-8 months in French oak barrels with lees stirringProducer Tasting Note:Golden pale yellow colour. Powerful and fresh on the nose. Aromas of citrus fruit, white flesh fruits such as pear, scents of garrigue and anise, notes of roasted hazelnuts. Mouth of great finesse and a beautiful minerality, iodized notes with touches of white pepper and flint. A lot of freshness on the finish with notes of acacia honey.Rugby star-turned-winemaker Gérard Bertrand boasts an impressive portfolio of Languedoc wine estates and has made it his mission to raise the profile of this oft-overlooked wine region. Ripeness, intensity and oak all figure prominently in the Bertrand style but so does organic and biodynamic farming.Gerard Bertrand’s 1000ha Chateau l’Hospitalet estate is located close to Narbonne on the Mediterranean coast of southwest France and the “Grand Vin” wines come from the best plots of the property’s 82ha of vineyards.Food Match: To be enjoyed at 11°C with fried scallops, fish in sauce, or as an aperitif.Gerard Bertrand ‘Chateau l’Hospitalet Grand Vin’ La Clape Blanc, Languedoc-Roussillon, France, 2020
