Graham’s Quinta Dos Malvedos, Vintage Port, 2018Grapes: A blend of 50% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga Nacional, 10% Sousão and 10% Alicante BouschetA single “quinta” (farm) vintage port from Graham’s that’s usually released when ready to drink. You might want to hold back awhile with this vintage to appreciate the full complexity.Producer Tasting Note:Typical Graham’s in style with eucalyptus and mint predominant on the nose with a note of black chocolate. The palate has plenty of grip and concentration with a long, generous and velvety finish. The 2018 growing season was a rollercoaster, consisting of a winter drought, a deluge in spring and heatwaves through the final ripening period. The Touriga Nacional benefited from the added soil moisture and delivered the estate’s signature eucalyptus and mint notes. The late-ripening Touriga Franca from the estate’s higher-lying vineyards, thrived in the hot harvest days and contributed ripe black fruit flavours, while the Sousão delivered a wonderful freshness.Critics’ Tasting Notes:”This fine Port is balanced between plenty of firm, ageworthy tannins and great fruits. The style is elegant, rich and full of jammy black fruits, always with a dry core that will allow it to age for many years. This vineyard on the Douro River is always the core of a Graham’s Vintage.” Drink from 2029. 95/100 points, Roger Voss, WINE ENTHUSIAST, December 2020″Lushly textured and laden with steeped plum, blackberry cobbler and blueberry reduction flavors, this is both broad and deep as it moves through, flashing hints of anise, violet, licorice snap and Christmas pudding along the way. Terrific range and definition.” Best from 2030 through 205096/100 points, James Molesworth, WINE SPECTATOR, February 2021″Damson dark of fruit and colour and so intense it’s almost coffee-like, although the nose dances with the scent of violets and graphite dust. Feisty, but real purity and freshness. Black elderberry fruit giving it a medicinal bitterness which just serves to make the wine even more exciting. The tannins have power but are already beautifully melded. It’s so wrong to be drinking this now but it is so vibrant and full of energy that you could just about get away with it. Very good value” Drink 2026-205017.5+/20 points, Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, November 2024Quinta dos Malvedos has been the cornerstone of Graham’s Vintage Ports ever since it was acquired in 1890. The estate still contains large areas of traditional vineyard laid out on terraces supported by dry-stone walls, built by hand in the 18th century.Grahams Quinta Dos Malvedos, Vintage Port, 2018
