<p>The 2022 Kreuzberg Riesling from Battenfeld-Spanier comes from one of the best vineyards in the southern Wonnegau region of Rheinhessen. This site is unique due to its limestone-rich soils, which impart an unmistakable minerality and elegance to the wine. Hans Oliver Spanier, the winemaker behind Battenfeld-Spanier, is known for his minimalist approach to viticulture and his dedication to creating wines with a distinctive character. The 2022 Kreuzberg Riesling is a bright pale yellow with slightly greenish reflections. The nose is immediately greeted by a fresh, mineral scent, accompanied by intense aromas of citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lime, underpinned by notes of green apple and delicate herbs. A hint of flint and wet limestone is also perceptible, lending the wine a distinctive finesse.</p><p>On the palate, the wine impresses with its precise, lively acidity and a taut, focused structure. The fruit is intense but never overpowering—instead, the minerality of the limestone soil clearly comes to the fore. The wine is powerful and profound without losing its lightness.
