<p>One of the best Sherries from a storied Spanish bodega that is music to the palate. </p><p><em>González Byass</em> is one of the largest and most famous of Spain’s Sherry-making bodegas. It was founded in <em>1835</em> by <em>Manuel María González Angel</em>, who was joined shortly thereafter by his trading partner, <em>Robert Blake Byass</em>. The company has expanded with each generation —<em> six of them</em> — with ownership and operation firmly under family control. They have a wide range of Sherries, Cordials, and Wines in the portfolio.</p><p>Lepanto is the flagship<em> luxury brand</em> of Sherry from González Byass. The name comes from a famous <em>sixteen century naval battle</em> where European forces — lead by the Spanish King — defeated an encroaching Ottoman fleet.</p><p><em>Lepanto Solera Gran Reserva Spanish Brandy</em> is made from <em>100% Palomino grapes</em>. And it is one of the few Sherries actually distilled in Jerez. Perhaps most importantly, it is aged for a<em> minimum of fifteen years</em> using the <em>Solera method</em> in casks that previously aged Fino Sherry. This makes the Gran Reserva <em>very rich</em> with a gorgeous mouth-feel and a lightly dry finish that is music to the palate.</p><p><u>Smartass corner:</u><em>Used Sherry casks from González Byass are in great demand by Single Malt Whisky makers in Scotland due to their exception seasoning and the unique flavor profile they bring to aging spirits.</em></p>
