<p>Mackmyra Swedish Whisky brings us a Single Malt daily dram with a complex profile and satisfying finish. </p><p>We shouldn’t be surprised that a Single Malt Whisky <em>could be made well</em> in Sweden. After all, Sweden sits at about the same latitude as Scotland and is surrounded by the same<em> North Sea</em>. I guess we should really be asking what took them so long to get around to it? Mackmyra has been tinkering with their malt distillery since <em>1999</em>, but up until a few years ago all their products were used in side beverages, blends, and flavored drinks. They started releasing their Single Malts in 2008. Most of their Spirits are aged in <em>new, Swedish oak</em> placed <em>50 meters underground</em> in an abandoned mineshaft.</p><p><em>Mackmyra Brukswhisky</em> is an important part of the core range of Spirits. In fact, the word “Brukswhisky” literally means “utility Whisky.” OK, that does not translate well out of Swedish. But it’s a way of saying <em>“daily dram.”</em> That’s what Mackmyra Brukswhisky is — <em>a consistent, high-quality Single Malt </em>that is approachable. But this is no slacker. The Spirit is a<em> marriage of several cask types</em> from first-fill ex-Bourbon to virgin Swedish oak, ex-Sherry, and refill casks. So you have <em>lots of complexity </em>and a smooth flavor profile.</p>
