<p>In 1888 Spyros Metaxa, by blending only the finest matured wine distillates with the selected sun soaked grapes of Attica, created this distinctive spirit giving it a unique smooth and mellow taste, neat, or on the rocks. </p><p> The exact formula has remained a closely guarded secret ever since. </p><p> It is a blend of brandy and wine made from sun-dried Savatiano, Sultana and Black Corinth grape varieties. It is then blended with an aged Muscat wine from the Greek islands of Samos and Lemnos. </p><p> Metaxa, exported to over 60 countries, was the first alcoholic drink consumed in space.</p>
