Monthélie Jacques Parent, Côtede Beaune, Burgundy, France, 2014100% Pinot Noir, hand harvested, 35 year old vines, certified organic (from 2013), aged for 14 months in French oak (30% new).Situated between the villages of Meursault (to the south) and Volnay (to the north), Monthélie produces much more red wine than white. The domaine (based in Pommard) has a long history, being founded in 1803, and is now run by the 12th generation,Anne Parent and Catherine Fages-Parent.A dark coloured Monthélie from Parent. The bouquet is concentrated on aromas of cherries, blueberries and blackberries, which are followed by forest floor and a touch of oak. There is an underlying pleasant, slightly fleshy, sensation. The taste is characterized by the silky soft tannins and the fruit is here more concentrated on red berries – with cherries and raspberries as the prominent ones.Notes of forest floor and cask, and the aftertaste feels, despite its age, relatively crisp and fresh, giving the wine elegance.Drink with game birds, wok-fried vegetables, poultry, Camenbert or Brie cheeses.Monthelie Jacques Parent 2014, from Fraziers Wine Merchants
