<p>A complex and balanced blend of well-aged Mount Gay Rums across the range of casks and stills. </p><p>Rum production is THE <em>primary industry</em> on the island of Barbados — the eastern-most island in the Caribbean. Mount Gay is not only the oldest Rum Distillery on the island, it is documented to be <em>the oldest Rum Distillery in the world</em> with land title papers stretching all the way back to 1703. Technically, the Distillery is <em>independent</em>, but Rémy Cointreau is a majority shareholder of the facility and controls the Mount Gay brand — and they do a very good job leaving them alone to create their brand of <em>Caribbean magic</em>.</p><p>Mount Gay XO has been around for a while… but then again it is <em>brand new</em>. The previous edition was a blend of Rums had a narrower range of agings. Brand new for 2020, <em>Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend</em> is a blend of Rums aged between <em>five and seventeen years</em> in a combination of cask types — <em>ex-Bourbon, ex-Whiskey, and ex-Cognac</em>. To add even more complexity, the stills are a combination of pot and column. And we really like the results. Tons of character, not too sweet, and with a <em>great balance</em> of spice and fruit notes.</p>
