ORGANIC / BIODYNAMIC (UNCERTIFIED) / VEGAN / LOW SULPHITE

Bright, citrusy, and a little bit wild, this natural orange wine has lots of personality. Made from the Falanghina grape in Southern Italy, it comes in a fun, easy-to-carry 1-litre bottle. The perfect size for sharing at BBQs, picnics, or sunny park afternoons.

Origin: Gargano, Puglia, Italy

Producer: Calcarius

Vintage: 2020

Grape variety: Falanghina

Food pairing: On its own, Shellfish, Vegetarian, Appetizers and snacks

Bottle size: 1L

ABV: 12%

Flavour profile

This orange wine is fresh, fruity, and a little wild (in the best way). Fresh and lively, with notes of citrus peel, dried apricot, and a hint of wild herbs. The skin contact gives it a subtle tannic grip and a pleasing texture, while the acidity keeps everything bright and refreshing. Unfiltered and naturally made, it’s full of character with just the right balance of fruit, structure, and a gentle touch of funk.

About Valentina Passalacqua & Calcarius winery

Valentina Passalacqua is a natural winemaker based in the Gargano area of Puglia, known for her volcanic limestone soils and bold approach to wine. Her Calcarius range is all about transparency, both in the wine and in how it’s made. Her wines are light, juicy, and full of life, and the labels (inspired by chemistry and minerals) show her playful, thoughtful style.

About Falanghina

Falanghina is an ancient white grape from Southern Italy that’s known for its bright, citrusy flavours and floral notes. In this wine, it’s used in a more unusual way: left in contact with its skins to create an “orange” wine, which gives it more texture and complexity. If you’ve never tried orange wine before, this is a super friendly place to start.

How to pair it

Serve it chilled and pair it with dishes that are big on flavour. It’s great with grilled vegetables, spicy food, Middle Eastern mezze, or anything with herbs and citrus. It also works surprisingly well with fried chicken or a good plate of chips. Anything crispy and salty will love this wine!
