A high-quality Irish Whiskey that has been distilled by POWERS for nearly 230 years.

James Power was an innkeeper in Dublin. In 1791 he decided to take some of his profits and start his own distillery. Thus, John’s Lane Distillery at Thomas Street was born. The company grew and was very successful, so as soon as he was of age, his son John joined the family business, thus John Power and Son became the official name.

They innovated and expanded greatly on their way to becoming the most popular Whiskey sold in Ireland. In fact, POWERS was one of the first distilleries in the world — and the very first in Ireland — to start bottling their own Spirit in 1886. Up until then, Whiskey was sold by the cask. They placed a gold label on each bottle they produced, thus “Powers Gold Label” became the core product of their range.

Have you been to Ireland yet? Sure, they love their Guinness and Jameson… but you get to the what the boys in the local pubs are drinking and you will find Powers Gold Label is served more than any other Irish Whiskey. In keeping with tradition, Powers Gold Label is distilled three times — they say “thrice.” But here’s a kicker for you… it was matured in American oak casks for five to seven years. The result is a rich, honey flavored Whiskey with bold, complex spice notes, which John’ Lane Distillery became world-famous for by the turn of the 20th century. The Spirit is non-chill-filtered — a good thing indeed — and bottled at 40% ABV.

If you know your Spirits you know that this is odd. But a “special” production process — they won’t exactly say what — let’s them bottle it at this unique ABV without it turning cloudy. Don’t you just love a good mystery story? It’s worth the price of admission just to give that a sample. But even if you are not curious about their “special” process, this is just a high-quality Irish Whiskey so quit ‘yer yapping and buy a bottle already.

*Powers has recently changed their labels, and as the original labels are being phased out, there is still a chance that you might receive a bottle different than what is pictured. But rest assured, the liquid remains the same, regardless of the label.
