Breathtaking barley bomb.

James Power was an innkeeper in Dublin. In 1791 he decided to take some of his profits and start his own distillery. Thus, John’s Lane Distillery at Thomas Street was born. The company grew and was very successful, so as soon as he was of age, his son John joined the family business, thus John Power and Son became the official name.

They innovated and expanded greatly on their way to becoming the most popular Whiskey sold in Ireland. In fact, POWERS was one of the first distilleries in the world — and the very first in Ireland — to start bottling their own Spirit in 1886. Up until then, Whiskey was sold by the cask.

Three Swallow Release is a modern retelling of the old Powers story and the traditional “Pure Pot Still Whiskey” — a style that helped POWERS become one of the best sellers in the world. It’s unmistakably Irish, made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, triple-distilled in copper pot stills, and matured for 5 to 7 years in second-fill and third-fill American oak casks. A small portion (3%) of distillate aged in Oloroso Sherry butts is added, resulting in a non-chill-filtered, complex and full-bodied Whiskey with notes of spice, honey and fruit.

Smartass Corner:The name “Three Swallow” comes from the Power Family’s three coachmen, who would prepare a small flask of POWERS when going for a long trip — just enough to give each man a sip but not interfere with their job.

*Powers has recently changed their labels, and as the original labels are being phased out, there is still a chance that you might receive a bottle different than what is pictured. But rest assured, the liquid remains the same, regardless of the label.
