The Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru 2013 comes from a premier vineyard in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. The Clavoillon vineyard is classified as a Premier Cru and is located near some of the most prestigious Chardonnay sites. The soil consists of clay and limestone, providing the perfect foundation for producing wines with depth and minerality.

Domaine Leflaive is a respected biodynamic producer known for its meticulous vineyard management and commitment to producing the highest quality wines. The 2013 vintage was cultivated according to biodynamic principles, promoting soil and vine health and producing high-quality grapes. The wine is fermented in French oak barrels, some of which are new to ensure subtle oak characteristics. Batonnage (lees stirring) enhances the wine’s texture and complexity, and malolactic fermentation ensures a mild acidity.

The Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru 2013 displays a brilliant golden yellow color. On the nose, it unfolds an intense aroma of ripe citrus fruits, white flowers, and a hint of roasted nuts. Mineral notes, accompanied by a touch of honey and delicate spices, round out the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with lively acidity that provides freshness. The aromas of lemon, green apple, and pear harmonize with the pronounced minerality and a creamy texture. The oak influence is well integrated, lending the wine subtle notes of vanilla and toast. The finish is long and persistent, characterized by mineral accents and a hint of citrus fruits.

The Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru 2013 has excellent aging potential. While approachable and vibrant when young, it will gain further complexity and refinement with a few years of ageing. This wine pairs perfectly with seafood such as lobster and oysters, poultry dishes in creamy sauces, and a selection of mature cheeses such as Brie or Camembert. Overall, the Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru 2013 is a prime example of the finesse and complexity that Domaine Leflaive offers from this renowned vineyard.
