Solera aging, we love thee!

Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala are the kings of Guatemala Rum. What’s that you say? You haven’t heard about Guatemala Rum? Well let us tell you just a bit. The first thing that you need to know is that Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala production takes place above 7000 feet in elevation. So even though Guatemala sits smack dab in the middle of the Central American tropics, the Rum doesn’t age in the sweltering heat. The mountains are more temperate, helping the Rum age more consistently and smoothly.

They make a solid variety of Rum brands of different ages and price points, including Casa Botran and Ron Zacapa… all of them well regarded and flavorful.

Ron Botran 18 Year Old Solera 1893 … the name tells you a lot. Ron Botran is a quality brand from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, telling you about their tradition of fine craftsmanship and locally-sourced sugar cane. “Solera” tells you that this fine, aged Rum is produced over a long time through the gentle, perpetual solera method. So this tropical delight has some really old, premium stuff in the mix. The result is a complexity and depth of flavor that you just can’t get any other way. It’s hard to find solera at this price point, so take advantage of the opportunity.

This nice little Rum avoids another pitfall all-to-common in the liquor world today—they don’t over heat or over distill it. It retains a character and flavor profile of its own. This surprisingly complex Guatemalan Rum is a very nice, easy drinker on its own. Muchas gracias!
