Balanced. </p><p>Dufftown distillery was started in 1896 by two <em>Liverpudlian entrepreneurs</em> when a stone built saw and a mill was converted into a distillery. By the 1920s the distillery was doing great and had an expanding market in the US, however <em>prohibition </em>hit it badly and it was closed in 1933. In 1934 Arthur Bell bought the distillery, and it has been an important contributor to Bells blend ever since. The Dufftown distillery is the <em>only one </em>in Scotland malting all its own barley.</p><p><em>The Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year Old </em>is aged for 15 years in American and European casks, which were used for <em>ageing bourbon and sherry, </em>respectively. The depth and richness of its flavor is achieved through longer fermentation and slower distillation.</p>
