<p>The Century of English Silence is Over. </p><p>The English are not particularly known for producing Whisky and their northern cousins make sure we all know who’s better at it. There used to be Whisky distillers in <em>London</em>, <em>Liverpool </em>and <em>Bristol</em> until the late <em>19th century,</em> when the production completely ceased. Until 2003 when two of Cornwall’s producers revived the tradition. Three years later <em>St George’s Distillery</em> <em>from Norfolk</em> started producing single malts, bringing grain from Fakenham, yeast from Kingston upon Hull and the water from Breckland.</p><p><em>The Nelstrop family </em>that built the distillery has a 600-year tradition of growing grain, and after they created the first 29 barrels of English Whisky, HRH <em>Prince Charles</em> himself officially opened the distillery. Additional knowledge came from Iain Henderson, who used to work for Laphroaig and today, the distillation has a <em>range of Whiskies</em>, both <em>peated</em> and <em>unpeated</em>; <em>bourbon matured</em>, and <em>sherry matured</em> (one of the Chapters even had a <em>rum finish!</em>).</p><p><em>The Original</em> is unpeated and aged in Bourbon casks, and it’s light and simple with quite a crunch at first. One should <em>enjoy it in small portions</em> as it is rather sweet, with notes of vanilla ice cream, nuts and just a hint of sea spray.</p>
