In 1876, the family entered a horse — a chestnut colt — in the classic Irish horse race called<em> “The National Produce Stakes”.</em> No one thought that the young horse would win, and the bookmakers took action at 100-to-1 odds. Well, the little horse won, and that horse’s name was <em>Tyrconnell</em>. The Watt family promptly dedicated a new brand of classic Irish Whiskey to the horse, and it has been a best-seller ever since. The dark days of Prohibition shuttered the stills for a while, but the <em>Kilbeggan Distilling Company</em> dusted off the copper and cranked things up to full production again. Their line of Irish Whiskey is now the fastest-growing brand in Ireland.</p><p><em>The Tyrconnell 15 Year Old</em> is finished in casks that used to hold Madeira fortified wine.
